Test benches

A test bench is generally used for the reproducible analysis of a technical object for one or more properties. The test benches in the EKTechnologies portfolio are aimed at determining electrochemical or physicochemical properties.
Typical test areas are fuel and electrolysis cells or short stacks with power ratings of up to 100kW. Besides the determination of the characteristics of the cells and stacks themselves, the characterisation of the cell components, such as membranes or gas diffusion layers, is a frequent testing task. For this purpose, membrane test systems are also in demand.

Test benches for membrane, fuel cell and electrolysis tests

Test benches for membrane, fuel cell and electrolysis tests have a high complexity. Sample and reaction gases must be humidified and regulated with precise flow control. In most cases hydrogen is used and in combination with oxygen and air the formation of highly explosive mixtures must always be carefully monitored and prevented. In addition, all relevant parameters must be measured reliably and accurately at different points. In addition, there are high-precision electrochemical measurements where high currents are used but small differences have to be detected.

In short: Highest demands are placed on our test benches.

Fuel cell test system by Scribner

For research-related applications, the test and inspection systems by Scribner are ideally suited. A classic is the fuel cell test system 850: Compact, flexible, reliable.

With 100W maximum load, cells/stacks up to 50cm² can be reasonably tested. The basic system with load, gas humidification and anode/cathode gas control can be individually extended with EIS, backpressure control or multi-gas management.

Water electrolysis test system by Scribner

The electrolysis test system ETS 600 can be used for water electrolysis tests.

The test bench comprises all necessary components:

  • Ion immersion for water feed,
  • backpressure control up to 2 bar,
  • 500W source and EIS, as well as
  • temperature and pressure measurement.

In addition to the ETS 600 for PEM waterelectrolysis the ETS 620 for AEM-electrolysis is also available.

Membrane test system by Scribner

In the field of membrane testing, or membrane conductivity measurement, the MTS-740 represents a powerful test bench.

The integrated humidification, temperature and pressure control of the sample gas is not only the balancing act between plate capacitor design and conductivity measurement in the electrolyte, but also the optimal simulation of the ambient conditions in an electrolysis or fuel cell. The multi-purpose probe allows the determination of in-plane and through-plane conductivity.

Fuel cell and electrolysis test benches for higher performance by Leancat

Fuel cell and electrolysis test benches for higher power in the kW range are a case for the czech specialists of Leancat at EKTechnologies.

Dimensioning, specifications and special requests are individually designed to meet the requirements. The classic electrolysis test bench comprises all fluid and measurement technology in one housing.

Equipment and configuration are extensively customisable, with working pressures up to 50 bar and above or multi-channel EIS measurement for the individual cells of a stack. We will be happy to advise you on the configuration of your desired test stand.
